Other than infrared communications, various short distance communications are used in daily life.
The transmission speed is a key element for Infrared Communications with its adaptability for small amounts of data transmission. In the present UFIR, 100Mbps transmission speed is in reality. It is possible to transmit about the 1 unit of CD data in 1 second.
The Bluetooth technology was originally created for mobile phone uses. The phone calls with headphones are widely spread recently. Also the phone calls with data communications have been in reality in 3G technologies since 2002 which was not available in 2G.
Different from infrared communications, Bluetooth need paring. But by registrating once between communication devices, automatic connections are available. In this way Bluetooth is useful in PAN(Personal Area Network).
The big differences between wireless LAN and Bluetooth is that a wireless LAN needs an internet connection as a communication receiver. On the other hand, Bluetooth is a low-speed communications aimed at mobile phone uses with quite low power consumption. A standardization of WiFi and WiMAX were worked out due to its diversity in wireless LAN standard. Wi-Fi is a wireless technology brand owned by the Wi-Fi Alliance intended to improve the interoperability of wireless local area networl products based on the IEEE 802.11 standards(ie.the kind of the wireless communication standard). It is a wireless technology improved the transfer rate that enables to take part in specified networks. WiMAX is a telecommunications technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways. It is based on the Ieee 802.16 standard
There are 3 different types in Non-Contact Type IC Card, which is known as SUICA and Felica. It is regulated by a distance needed for reading as follows, close type(~2mm), approach type (~10mm) and neighborhood type (~70mm). It is also regulated by the communication method from type A-C (Felica method).
